Juveniles mandated by the courts to attend highschool as a condition of probation or parole is aprevalent issue in today s juvenile justice system.This study addresses a major gap in the literatureregarding appropriate pedagogy utilized in post-incarceration academic programming/intervention.Further, this study provides a compellingexamination of the psychological stress factorspredominant in the lives of many of these youth,particularly how these factors affect achievementoutcomes in high school. "One Last Chance High" addscritical research information about an underservedand often overlooked population. Hopefully, thiswork will inspire educators to meet our studentswhere they are in terms of providing learningopportunities for all. Research is integral to ourability to provide service to students. "One LastChance High" gives voice to this unique population.With any luck, this study will serve as a seminalinvestigation, opening the portal to a lifetime ofteaching and learning, as a means of protecting andultimately supporting the successful education andtransition of disenfranchised youth.
