Thomas Broadus has been bullied and harassed since grade school. Now, in high school, he makes great efforts to fit in and be accepted. He fails to make friends with an admired group of jocks. They bully him and he fears their violence. Near despair, Thomas follows the advice of his inner "evil" voice, which appears to him in the form of a man ("Eye") dressed all in black, invisible to all but him. With Eye's unique help he succeeds, becomes an unforgiving leader, and revels in his newfound recognition.
